HOW I TRADE 
... a most unusual style...

Most people have a picture of me "super-glued" to my monitor, clicking away buy and sell orders. Nothing could be further from the truth. During market hours I seldom look at the markets, there's really not much need to. Most often you will find me out for a jog, perhaps I've walked across the lawn to the beach for a swim, out shopping, or doing hard core market research.

If looking at each tick is what you want to do, my way of trading is not for you.  I place my orders and walk away from the chaos. Let me explain;

While you can sure as heck use these simple tools for day trading, that is not what I do.  My average trade is 4-12 days long. I do not watch the markets during trading session; that means I have a life ;-)...I had to learn to trade that way when living in Australia the last few years. There markets there open when normal people should be sleeping. I do not trade the Forex...a market that is for most traders a broker scam. I trade Globex, Ice, etc., I place my orders and check in at the end of trading. My approach is as stress free as it gets.

Before I say another word...

Before I say another word I’m going to show you my actual account, so you can see I'm a profitable trader and how profitable trading can be. 

More importantly, you will see that I really do trade, in size. It is not unusual for me to trade 100 to 300 contracts a month.

As you will see these profits exceed hundreds of thousands of dollars. 

Sometimes it even amazes me that I can make this much money sitting in front of  a lap top working just a few hours a day.

Don’t get me wrong, it can be hard and demanding work.

I do have losing trades and have lost money trading at times, this is not risk free.

I want you see that people do make money at this.  If you are to learn (it doesn't have to be from me) make certain you study with people that can show real time performance. 

If they can't or won't, something is dreadfully wrong. The blind cannot lead the blind.

As you can see that was not a one-time occurrence from the following screenshots of other time periods of my trading in 2008.

Let me teach you the
 Art of Trading… to do what I do

 

I am what most people call a short term trader. Short-term trading is part science and part art… it is both a skill and craft. I do some day trading and will teach that as well. My day trading S&P hotline made over $50,000 in 2008. Those are real “out of sample” results from my hotline advice and do not reflect slippage on the 70 or so trades.

The great system traders, and there are many, average about 15% to 20% per year... that's very good... but not good enough for a private trader.

Great “art of trading” traders have consistently
demonstrated gains of over 100% per year,
some manage billions of dollars.

The traders I know want returns along the line of when I traded $10,000 to $1,100,000 in a real time 12 month trading contest, or when my 16 year old daughter traded her $10,000 to $110,000 in another 12 month contest. Numerous of my students have won these contests.

Most people that want to trade are lazy; they want a black box to generate wealth. They never quite figure out why they are failing. Or, they give their money to a Bernie Madoff and lose it all. They are just too smart to invest in learning to do this themselves… it amazes me!

I realize the way I can help people the most is to teach the science AND the art of trading.  

While indicators are important (the ones I will show you, for the most part, you have never seen before).  It is important to know how to use them--- when to use them and when not to---that is what much of the seminar will be about---the art of trading.

As the seminar begins on Saturday I'm going to show you - in the first 20 minutes - the precise entry techniques I use for short-term trading. 

While some of you have seen my OOPS! entry technique (it has been copied by writers and traders throughout the world), until now, I have kept other tricks of my trade private to myself. But, I'm going to fully reveal these at the seminar.

You will learn what I think is the most important point in understanding the markets, something I called “ Market Structure.”

Perhaps you have heard me lecture about this in the past. What you will be learning goes way beyond anything I've ever discussed before.  I have codified and refined market structure to make it very easy to see, understand, and use. Thanks to Chad, Pete and Tim at Genesis you will see on your charts the true short, intermediate and long term trends of any market, any time frame.

This is not about moving averages… they cannot show trend until after the turn. Market Structure is the actual building blocks of price action…it is how price must move. You can trade with just this one tool if you want. I did for years.

Saturday afternoon I will show how my private indicators are constructed. I will give you the formulas for them and the code for those of you who use Genesis software. More importantly you will learn the logic of how they work.

A FUNNY STORY….

It’s kind of a funny story how I came to develop and use these indicators.  I first used them in the late 1960’s… and they worked well enough for me to make a million dollars in 1973.

With the advent of new markets I focused on new techniques until a few years ago when—again—we had the new “electronic” markets. So I switched back to those tools from long ago, refined them a little and began trading them…40 years later… back at the start!

How good are they?  Using them in my Commodity Timing newsletter we averaged over $50,000 of profits for each of the last 3 years with 72% of profitable months.  That’s real time newsletter performance, not “woulda-shoulda ” stuff. Yes, that’s on a one lot basis.

I will show you exactly what constitutes buy and sell signals from these indicators... how these indicators set precise trading opportunities, to be long or short, so we can then use our entry techniques once the trading opportunities are present.

You can use my strategy on 1 minute bar charts, 5 minute, 27 minutes, daily or weekly. I don't care what time frame you use … these patterns work in all time frames. I will show the exact short term chart I use. I doubt if you are even aware of it.  You will learn how the patterns of momentum and trend play off one another in the market.  It will take me about one hour to show you the importance of how these two elements work together... I guess you could call this the science of market trading.

I will show you my favorite short-term pattern... and again it doesn't matter what time frame: five minute, 15 minute, hourly, daily or weekly. The exact same pattern presents marvelous trading opportunities regardless of the time frame you are using.

SYSTEMS AS WELL!

I will also give you all the rules for two mechanical systems I trade, one for Soy Beans and one for the S&P E-Mini. These are not curve fit but the same rules in use for years now.

The Soy Bean system was developed in 2004 and has been about 80% accurate—since then—making $7,500 per contract in 2008.

The E-Mini system is based on patterns I taught years ago and perfected for this market. It netted over $20,000 trading in 2008 with an impressive 75% win rate.

UNLIKE ANY TRADING SEMINAR YOU HAVE EVER BEEN TO

I really enjoy doing seminars, teaching people how to trade.  Perhaps the most unique one was where I traded $1 million real time in front of students and gave them back 20% of the profits.  In about 16 of these real time trading seminars I gave back over $200,000 of profits to people who came to my Million Dollar Challenge Seminar. They were shocked. They had never been to a seminar before and got money back. There is now a family board game based on this seminar!

To teach you the art of trading, it takes more than me being a good trader... I also have to be a good teacher... I have to understand how to transfer and imprint into you what I have within me. 

The best way to do that would be if you could sit with me, at my desk, every day and we would trade together. That can't happen due to your schedule, my schedule, etc. Of course even if we did that I would have to charge you at least $50,000 because I don't want to be distracted from my own trading, which as you have seen above often produces those types of gains in a day or two.

There is another solution… what we will be doing, for about three hours on Sunday, is a mock trading session.  In these sessions you will choose markets on a random basis, or just bring one that has been very difficult for you to trade, and I will trade it with you, blindly, not knowing what the market is or the time period... not knowing the future... you and I will go day-by-day through every signal, every trading opportunity.

We learn by practice, by performing over and again

Mastery of anything is accomplished by repetition. To that end we will mock trade several markets in different time frames so you really “get” the lessons and begin to develop you trading skills. Practice has stored in memory value. The more we practice, the more you learn. You will learn more that way. (IF YOU HAVE A LAP TOP BRING IT.  I WILL HAVE ALL THE DATA AND SOFTWARE FOR TEACHING TO LOAD INTO YOUR MACHINE)

I will give you my personal check list to match against every trade to make certain you are doing it right, using the same rules I use… so I’m there… when I’m not there with you.

We won't do this with just one or two trades… and we won't do it with trades I have preselected.  I want this to be as much of a challenge for me as it is to you, so you can see, under fire; how I react… you need to learn correct responses to unknown conditions if you are going to become a great trader.

You will hear me talk about the indicators, tools… how I approach the market, how I think about the market... you'll understand the art of trading from actually being with me as we go through these mock trades.  If there are trades Sunday afternoon I will also take them and show you my personal trades---the ones I’m in and why---as well as my plans for the coming week.

The most important part will be when I teach you what I do when all hell breaks loose… when there are unexpected moves against my positions… how I respond to that… what I do about slippage… how to avoid trading platform errors that can be so costly. The art of trading is also about dealing with problems… with 45 years of trading under my belt I know a little about trading problems.

Winning is about scoring when under pressure. Scoring comes from know what to do. My task is to imprint the correct response into you.

I don't want to make this letter too long, so let me wrap it up by simply listing what's going to take place at the seminar
